I almost forgot how pretty western Connecticut is. Quaint too. 2013 I hiked this section with my dad and brother. I remember waking up at Riga shelter to a stellar cloud inversion over the valley that looked like something out of a dream. That same trip we met this kid Cody Coyote who was on his third leg of a triple yoyo. His pack was just a cinched together bed roll, all burnt up from sleeping too close to the fire too many times, slung over his shoulder with a length of rope. I think about him pretty often. Got to see Rand’s View which is always a treat and was greeted by the tiniest newborn fawn while I cooked dinner next to a stream. Tomorrow I’ll head up toward Sage’s Ravine, maybe further to Everett, then head back this way.
