Yes! If they subscribed on Strava.com, they can redeem their gift before it expires and it will extend their subscription by another 12 months.
If they subscribed through the App Store or Google Play, they must cancel their current subscription and wait for it to expire to redeem their gift. Don’t worry, all their subscription features and data will carry over.

All gifts must be redeemed within 12 months of the purchase date.
No, gifted subscriptions do not auto-renew. After the one-year period has ended, the recipient’s account will revert back to free and they will need to resubscribe.
