SW rib of the South Early Winters Spire (7 pitches, trad 5.8+) with Jess, Rob, and Evan. Rob & Evan swung leads but Jess just ropegunned for me and I followed the whole time. We woke up early to be the first party on the route, so it was cold enough that we lost feeling in our fingers for the first couple pitches, which were the hardest, 5.8+ then 5.8. I climbed well and never fell, but there was a party of two right on our tail so between that and my fingers I got anxious. The party behind us were very nice and friendly, and Jess did a great job of leading everything and encouraging me. This was definitely the kind of thing I needed to do to improve my trad experience and skill, so I’m grateful for the opportunity, but it’s mentally very difficult to be the least experienced / weakest in the group, so following everything was a slice of humble pie. I really want to keep working on my trad climbing, so this was a great step for me.
