Worth every step!

We have been taking every high route alternative available to us on the TMB. Which usually means more elevation, and tougher trails. Today’s would be no different as we planned to take a more technical route through the mountains over a high pass called Fenetre d’Arpette. 

We resupplies in Champex, where we stayed last night and grabbed a coffee at the local cafe before heading off later than usual at around 9am. It was a long climb up rocky trail, eventually turning to just boulder hopping towards the top of the pass. It was rainy  and the clouds flowed in and out of the valley as we ascended, really beautiful.

Unfortunately the pass was clouded out and we didn’t see much at the top so we started the equally long descent back to the TMB main route. Insane views all the way down with a glacier and waterfalls to our left the entire way. We came across this tiny rock cabin where a local guy, Pascal, was living. No access by road, just a remote little hut in the alps and he seemed happy as anyone. He appreciated our company and made us tea. It was really nice.

We passed through a small village before pushing up one final climb to find a campsite. Exhausted and happy, we found a beautiful spot just before rain rolled in. What a day.
