Beautiful day out, but I was not prepared. Basically no electrolytes and I started getting wild cramps on Cathedral. Right before Cathedral lake it hit so hard I started screaming lol. My whole body, but mostly my right quad. Lots of walking and trying to learn how to move without triggering it. I was so focused on that I missed the turn down the slabs and added on an extra 20min around the lake… I’d like to come back with more fitness and electrolytes. And better route selection in several parts. Still had fun :)

Also, I wiped out an hour in and broke my bladder tube. Drank way less water than I was planning. 

I wore my trail runners the whole time. I brought my climbing shoes just in case, but didn’t think I could justify the time lost in transition. Also, there are several points on Matthes where I was straight up running, so climbing shoes wouldn’t have worked as well overall. I also ripped off a head-sized jug at the notch between the 2 peaks. Travis’ time on Matthes is truly bonkers. 

Unironically, I think the best way to train for this is the stairmaster. Perhaps I should have been joining Amy and Pasha all along…

*wasn’t really sure where to call the end of the crest. I hit lap when I was going past the last tower, but the Strava segment is much shorter. Also, I did tag both the south and north peaks.
