This was a really fun ride in one of the rare smooth trails in the Durango area that climbed smoothly with not too many switchbacks or techy sections. We went all the way up to the Pinkerton intersection and decided to do an out-and-back on Jones because of how fun the downhill seemed on the climb up. I've heard from locals that the downhill is the best part of this trail. 

One thing that is not amazing about this trail is that it is moto-friendly, which meant that we had motorcycles coming up behind us and passing us. On the way back, one rider in our group had a really close call with a motorcycle that was going uphill way too fast and they had a near miss by inches. That could have been really bad. 

Another aspect of the out-and-back that was not amazing was that you're running into mountain bikers climbing up and having to pull over. Constantly be on the lookout as it's not a loop trail. I would probably do this on a weekday next time if I plan to do the downhill back down on Jones. 

Parking at the Hermosa Creek/Pinkerton parking was easy, and access to the trailhead is easy, even for a low-profile vehicle. There's plenty of space for even vans and small RVs.
