Appalachian Trail Hike

My eldest wanted to go for a longer hike before his indoor track season started next week.  He gave him the choice of where he wanted to go, and he picked hiking from Gathland State Park to Harpers Ferry and back.  We made a short side trip to Weverton Cliffs on the way out.  The plan was to do a 20-mile hike, but when I accidentally stepped on the back of my son's hiking boot while on the pedestrian bridge into Harpers Ferry and nearly ripped the entire sole off, we made an unplanned detour to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy in Harpers Ferry, where I was graciously provided with some duct tape to fix it.  This added on some extra mileage.
